Student-friendly Christmas Gift Guide

Hello, Reader!

It’s a month until Christmas and I’m not the one to leave gifts until the last minute. Starting planning out gifts early means that you can get creative with them and put more thought into them. Not to mention, it can save you quite a lot of money. So here’s your handy student-friendly Christmas gift guide.

1. Use your skills
Use the skills you have to make a cute, handmade gift with love. If you’ve got a talent that makes people say ‘can you make one for me?’, this is the time to actually make them one. Yes, you’re giving your work ‘for free’ but otherwise, you would’ve spent money on their gifts, so in a way… you are getting paid? Painting, knitting, drawing, writing… anything that produces something you can physically gift them. The main benefit of this type of gift-giving is that it’s free or almost free (depending on the materials you need) but the drawback… it can be time-consuming.

2. Easy DIY gifts
If your talents aren’t of the sort that produces good Christmas gifts, there are plenty of ideas for homemade gifts that walk you through the steps of how to make them. Some good ideas are a hanging plant holder, DIY candles or homemade cake mix in a jar. If you’re thinking of something more personalised, how about a photo album or an explosion box if you’re willing to put in the work. The benefit of this one is that you don’t have to be super artistic to make a beautiful handmade gift and the drawback is, of course, that it might take you some time to complete.

3.Shop smarter
Ironically, shopping for Christmas gifts on a budget can be depressing; so much money and so much more to buy. It can be especially hard when you don’t know exactly what you’re looking for, and so, you find yourself buying things because ‘well, they might like this thing’. A much better strategy is planning in advance what you would like to gift to your close ones; sit down, do online research and decide on every single gift you will get for your close ones. If you’re struggling, books, fluffy socks and festive tea/coffee sets make great gifts. If all else fails, you can’t go wrong with sweets and chocolate, (unless they don’t like/can’t eat sweets, in that case, I’m sorry.) Also, remember to check UniDays and student beans for student discounts because there’s nothing more heartbreaking than finding out you could’ve paid less money.

Happy gift giving!
Love,
Agnes xo
